Velvet Mangan - Founder/CEO
A woman of strength and vision, Velvet has been a transformational activist in the recovery community focusing her efforts on the healing and wellbeing of young women. She has incorporated her years of life experience and knowledge of women's suffering and addiction into her mission and ultimately her sense of purpose. Velvet opened her doors and her heart to restore the soul sickness she once suffered from herself years ago and has now developed one of the leading women's drug and alcohol treatment programs in Southern California, Safe Harbor Treatment Center. By breaking the silence women are so used to enduring in the grips of addiction, Velvet continues to change the stigma and barriers women face day to day. Through her divine visions and guidance Velvet is an inspiration to young women who walk side by side with her, learning what it means to be authentic, to live in ones truth, to live in recovery, to live in sobriety, and most importantly to live in love.
Maggie Grisham - Director of Admissions
Maggie Grisham has been in recovery for over 20 years. Her passion and experience in recovery has led Maggie to make a professional change and work with women in addiction. Maggie is devoted helping women and their families as they struggle with the confusion and frustration of addiction by applying her love and knowledge of the 12-Step program. Understanding that choosing recovery is a difficult task for women and their loved ones, Maggie dedicates her work to explaining the successful programs Safe Harbor has to offer and assuring those calling that we are here to help and understand the trials of early recovery. Maggie finds great joy in meeting those she has talked to over the phone and seeing them blossom into a sober life here at Safe Harbor.
Dr. Andrew Schneider - Psychiatrist
Andrew Schneider is a psychiatrist in private practice in Irvine, California. In addition to his Adult Psychiatry training, he completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and has a M.S. in Sports Psychology. Dr. Schneider takes a holistic approach to psychiatry, offering both psychotherapy and medication management in his practice. His practice also includes complementary/alternative herbal medicine as a treatment option based on his formal training in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Schneider is experienced in the area of chemical dependency and emphasizes best practice care and a therapeutic alliance with patients.
Arlene Hylton Campbell - Licensed Agape Minister: Spiritual Director
Rev. Arlene Hylton Campbell is the Spiritual Director for Safe Harbor Treatment Center for women. She is a licensed non-denominational Minister in the State of California. Rev. Arlene supports individuals in realizing their highest potential. Her support of individuals in recovery is based on each individual realizing a higher power that is active and fully available in their life. Through prayer and spiritual counsel women are given tools to remember the connection they have with their higher power. Women are also given spiritual principles to support them in living a life of recovery and fulfillment. Rev. Arlene sees the potential in each client and identifies the God given potential within them. She sees the pain of the past in each client yet encourages each one to start creating a new past with their higher power as their support. Rev. Arlene believes "Our higher power is greater than any past miss-takes and healing is available to everyone".
Dr. Lu Nelson - Ph.D, MFT: Director of Art Recovery Program/Primary Therapist
Through the outstanding programs offered by Pepperdine University and the Chicago School of Psychology/CGI Irvine, Dr. Lu Nelson earned her Masters Degree, her Doctorate and obtained an MFT license. In her private practice, Lu counsels Men, Women, Children and Families, but her heart is still tied to the incident that started her on this professional path. Assisting individuals at risk remains near and dear to Lu, personally and professionally. The Safe Harbor commitment to caring about, and helping Women in need of positive change in their lives attracted Lu to Safe Harbor and the wonderful, effective programs that help Women move from addiction and to healthy productive lives. Dr. Lu Nelson manages and directs the successful Art for Recovery Program at Safe Harbor's Knox, Magellan and Cappella Facilities. In addition to a PhD, Lu is credentialed in Domestic Violence, Art Expression and is currently pursuing certification for DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
Sheila Diskin - MFT: Somatic Expression Therapist
Shelia is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been in practice since 1997. Sheila has extensive training in working with trauma. She is a certified Somatic Experience Practitioner and has trained for four years in Bioenergetics Analysis Therapy. She works with adults that have been traumatized as children. Trauma is identified as anything from childhood losses, auto accidents, falls, and medical procedures to emotional/physical/sexual abuse. Her emphasis is working with the nervous system in our bodies to find where trauma/stress is being held to provide an environment for release and healing from the trauma.
Rupa Ward - MA, MFTI: Therapist, E.M.D.R. Mindfulness- based cognitive therapy
Rupa has an M. A. in Psychology with Marriage and Family Therapy emphasis from Chapman University. She has maintained a committed spiritual practice under several spiritual masters, has taught yoga and meditation in the community college system, and offers regular workshops in mindfulness in her private practice through Pathways to Wellness in Costa Mesa, California. She is also an EMDR certified therapist who specializes in treating trauma related issues. Her practice combines different therapeutic techniques, including CBT, ACT, EMDR, and strategies derived from mindfulness practice and body-mind integration theories.
Dr. Hisham Korraa - MD – Psychiatrist, Addictionologist
Dr. Korraa is licensed psychiatrist in Newport Beach, California and has been working with the women of Safe Harbor for many years. He is well-versed in Safe Harbor’s treatment and medication philosophy and works closely with our clients to ensure their well-being as they journey towards recovery. Dr. Korraa specializes in chemical dependency, adjustment disorders, anxiety, behavioral disorders, chronic mental illness, depression, parenting issues and relational difficulties.
Cindy Connelly - MA, MFT: Trauma Specialist/Therapist
After spending many years in the insurance industry, Cindy Connelly returned to school to complete a life long dream. Since that time she has worked with women in addiction in many capacities including residential treatment. She has been a program director as well as a clinical supervisor. Cindy is a licensed psychotherapist specializing in grief and trauma counseling with a private practice in Fountain Valley. She understands addiction and the many effects it has on the individual as well as the family.
Dr. Tami Brannon-Quan - Ph.D, MFT, CAS: Eating Disorder Specialist/Therapist
Tami is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Addiction Specialist. Her area of specialty is treating individuals with eating disorders and body image issues. As the development of eating disorders is rising, so is a poor body image among women in general. Working with women struggling with a poor body image and chemical dependency has become a passion for Tami. It is through this work, that she co-authored Love Your Body: Change the Way You Feel About the Body You Have with Lisa Licavoli, R.D., C.C.N.
Lisa Licavoli - R.D., C.N.N: Certified Clinical Nutritionist
Lisa Licavoli is a Registered Dietician, Board Certified Nutritionist, and Traditional Naturopath specializing in Integrative Nutrition and Eating Disorder recovery. She has been in practice for 27 years. Lisa takes a body centered approach to health and healing, with nutrition as the foundation. Due to her extensive work with clients who have eating disorders, she co-wrote the book Love Your Body: Change the Way You Feel About the Body You Have. The book is designed to move people towards accepting their body by recovering from unrealistic expectations, perfectionism, and body-hatred. Lisa is extensively trained in the use of supplements and herbs, yoga, meditation, and counseling techniques to help assist people in attaining and maintaining their health and recovery. Without an adequate nutrient supply, a person may experience depression and anxiety, low energy, brain fog and memory loss, which are major obstacles to healing. Therefore, she helps clients re-establish good eating habits and heal their relationship with food.
Marissa Townley-Zwetow - MS MFTI/ Psychodramatist Facilitator

Marissa has a Masters degree in counseling from Cal State Fullerton and has been studying psychodrama for the past 4 years. She has had extensive training with experiential therapy both personally and professionally. Marissa is dedicated to helping others through experiential therapy and feels that this is far more powerful than talk therapy alone. Marissa runs our trauma groups using psychodramatic techniques to facilitate safety and connectedness and also meets with clients one on one using experiential techniques.

Dr. Scott Sandland - C.Ht.: Hypnotherapist
Scott is a respected practitioner for medical and dental applications of hypnosis. He works successfully in fields of pain control and addiction and assists Safe Harbor Treatment Center with both individual and group therapy. He applies his practices to help the women of Safe Harbor Treatment Center identify their goals and to find the resources to positively change their lives.
Danelle Baie - CATCI,CAADE:Director of Operations at Knox Facility/Case Manager
Danelle Baie is a licensed chemical dependency counselor and has over 15 years of experience in the recovery community. Danelle has been working at Safe Harbor for over 8 years as it has expanded and assisted countless women looking for sobriety. Danelle entered into the field of recovery work following her intuition on her purpose for what her life work should involve. As a certified counselor at Safe Harbor, Danelle also brings her experience of long-term sobriety and interest in physical health. Danelle believes in a mental, physical, emotional and spiritual sobriety and recovery.
Becky Gatdula - RADI: Director of Operations at Capella Facility/Case Manager
After working with her father in his business for many years, Becky was driven towards a more meaningful career. This career choice manifested as a career where she could change the lives of women, their family and their children. She went back to school and with the help from her children and family, she was able to obtain her drug and alcohol counseling certification. Becky has now worked in the recovery field for over 10 years with adolescents, women and children and young women struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. Becky has completed Relapse Prevention Therapy Certification and has a thorough understanding of the Twelve Step recovery principles and practice.
Joanne Young - NCC, LAADC: Director of Operations at Magellan Facility/Case Manager
Joanne is dedicated to the notion that women helping women in recovery is the key to ensuring a strong foundation for recovery from all addictions and is committed to helping women through this process. Joanne meets clients at whatever stage of addiction they are in and works to move them towards their ultimate goal of successful life-long recovery. Joanne believes that Safe Harbor provides a safe place to heal from shame, trauma, and grief and strives to help each women reclaim their lives free from addiction. Joanne attended DePaul University and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology then went on to attend National -Louis University for a graduate degree in Counseling/Human Services. Since then, Joanne has moved to California where is pursuing her passion for helping women in need.
Annie Gendaszek - MA, CADCA, LAADC : Case Manager
Annie Gendaszek is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Annie has her Master's Degree in Communication Studies and has extensive studies in Forensic Psychology. She has a deep understanding of the interaction of chemical dependency and eating disorders. She works carefully to provide a structured and therapeutic environment for women. Annie believes in helping women achieve physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual sobriety. Annie works closely with clients and their families to help the client achieve life long sobriety and provide education about the disease of addiction to their families.
Patti King - CADCA: Case Manager
Patti is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor at Safe Harbor Treatment Center's Capella facility. She uses her experience in the recovery field to offer support and guidance to the women of Safe Harbor. Patti is dedicated to supporting the women she works with and believes in helping women learn to rebuild relationships with themselves, their families, and each other. She believes in women supporting women in recovery as a means to successfully transforming what life used to be like for those entering treatment and the people surrounding them.
Lisa Bahar - M.A., LMFT
Lisa Bahar is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Newport Beach, California having received her graduate degree from Pepperdine University in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy and her Baccalaureate in Cinema-Television Production from the University of Southern California. Lisa is known as a creative therapist particularly with her use of Cinema-Therapy, a collaborative tool of using film stories as symbolic metaphors of problems and challenges clients may be facing. In addition to facilitating Cinema-Therapy at Safe Harbor, Lisa also provides DBT groups and individual therapy for our clients.
Marissa Murray - CADAC: Case Manager
Marissa Murray is a registered member of the California Drug and Alcohol Counselor Certification Program (CADCA) and has been supporting others in their recovery journey since 2007.  Marissa's heartfelt passion is to make a difference and help to transform the lives of women who struggle with addiction.  Having firsthand knowledge of the destruction and pain substance abuse causes in families has helped Marissa to have a compassionate and unique approach with clients.  Unifying families and helping clients achieve an attitude of gratitude are two of her primary goals, in addition to the introduction of twelve step programs, which she credits with changing her own life.  Specialties include: individual counseling, group facilitating and case management.
Kelli Wilson - RAS, B.S.: Clinical Operations Manager
Kelli Wilson is a Registered Addiction Specialist and holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Psychology. Kelli has worked in the field of recovery for over 25 years and enjoys working with individuals and families. She is an active supporter of NAMI, and is involved in activities to raise awareness to increase funding for substance abuse and mental health services. Kelli believes in an integrative approach to recovery and reports this is what attracted her to Safe Harbor Treatment Centers for Women.
Eve Starks - CADCA: Case Manager

Eve Starks' passion for helping and being of service to others led to her career in human services and her certification as drug and alcohol counselor. Eve is the case manager of our eating disorders track at the Magellan Program. Her deep desire to assist women with acquiring the skills to maintain recovery led her to Safe Harbor. She reported that she loves the Safe Harbor motto of "Women helping Women". She graduated with honors from Intercoast College in Drug and Alcohol Studies. Eve is driven to collaboratively work with the women at Safe Harbor to achieve their goals of recovery.
