Safe Harbor's Healing Process Phase - II (Second Month)
The Life and Potential Stage:

The second stage of Safe Harbor's healing process is better characterized as the life and potential stage. During this phase women begin to reclaim their personal power and their interpersonal relations are distinguished in group cohesion. Group members are engaged in active acknowledgement of each woman's contributions while building and maintaining their own community and solving any group issues together. During Phase II, women begin to become willing to change their preconceived ideas on life and recovery, and actively begin to trust and contribute their environment. A sense of belonging and relief in their lives begins to unfold. Accomplishments in each woman's recovery are celebrated and encouraged by staff and group members alike encouraging and empowering everyone to learn new skills and share their excitement.

In Phase II, Safe Harbor women are encouraged and guided in finding their passions in life. Through this guidance, each counselor assists their clients in learning how to seek employment or education in their chose field emphasizing their full potential. Women begin to learn the value of balancing work, family, friends and spirituality while working a 12-step program and being an active member in their recovery community. 12-Step meetings become and extension of each woman's intricate life and begin to accept that the steps and principles of a recovery program are instrumental in maintaining their overall wellbeing.

Women in Phase II begin to discover that living their life in principal not only maintains their sobriety, but provides a path for many other issues that can arise. Group members learn what leads them towards their addition as the focus of this phase is helping individuals and the group to organize their thought process and their addictive behaviors. In Phase II, each woman is taught specific coping skills in the areas that are hindering their recovery and are affecting their daily lives. It is in this phase that women can begin to visualize their future in recovery and identify resources that can help them maintain a sober and successful life.

Highlighted below is a breakdown of Safe Harbor's Phase II Process:
  • Continue weekly individual sessions with certified counselors on and off-site
  • Continue daily sessions with personal case manager
  • Either obtain a part-time job, enroll part-time in college or regular volunteer work
  • Attend at least 3 scheduled therapy groups per day including: yoga, mediation, process groups, nutrition, tai chi, hypnotherapy, equine therapy, experiential therapy, healthy relationships, body image therapy, relapse prevention, art therapy and Big Book Studies
  • Maintain the responsibility of a 12-Step Meeting Commitment and attendance at applicable 12-Step Meetings.
  • Complete Steps 4 and 5 with their 12-Step Sponsor
  • Complete written treatment reflection work with each individuals case manager as applies to Phase II
  • Continue to show personal responsibility and accountability to their group by maintaining and completing assigned chores on time
  • Participate in all areas and components of treatment
  • Continue to practice healthy nutrition daily
  • Assist Phase I group members and new comers as they integrate themselves and adjust to recovery including introductions to 12-Step meetings, sober friends and activities and grocery shopping.
